10 Budget-Friendly Spring Activities

There’s nothing better than getting to enjoy spring, especially after a long winter. While there are so many activities that you are itching to do, it can be hard to find ones that don’t break the bank. To help you enjoy spring on a budget, here are 10 budget-friendly spring activities.

No. 1: Go Fishing

Fishing is a great way to relax and enjoy the calm water. If you don’t already own a boat, then this will cost a bit more money. But for the amount of time you spend out on the water, it’s a great bang for your buck.

Check out this guide to figure out how to get started fishing, and this blog that talks about how to rent local boats. And don’t forget to ask your friend/neighbor with a boat to rent it for the day. You might even be able to pay them back with a nice dinner.

No. 2: Visit a Farmers’ Market

Farmers usually sell their products at farmers’ markets once or twice a week. These events are often in a designated public place like a park, inside a building, or in a parking lot. Sometimes they even have live entertainment.

Farmers’ markets are a great way to meet local farmers near you and also buy fresh produce. Check out LocalHarvest to find local markets near you. If you want fresh produce, but don’t want to leave your house, see if they have a delivery option.

No. 3: Go Camping

One of the premier staples of outdoor activities is camping. No matter where you live, a camping trip is around the corner. You can bring your partner, your kids, your friends and the rest of your family. If you want to save money you can even go camping in your backyard.

Should you choose to go camping in the woods, make sure to bring sunscreen, snacks, a tent, and a book. For more information on how to prepare to go camping, check out this guide by Koa. And to find the best spot to go camping, check out Hipcamp, a camping site locator. Here’s a tent that we recommend for families!

There’s nothing better than a nice camping trip. Be sure to check the weather in advance, so you aren’t caught off guard.

No. 4: Go Kayaking or Canoeing

Many companies allow you to rent kayaks or canoes if you don’t own your own. If you go later in the afternoon, you may be able to get a lower price at some rental locations.

While this might not be the cheapest of activities, considering you are out on the water for a few hours it’s a great bang for your buck. You can also mix in other activities like a picnic after to make it a full-day trip.

No. 5: Go For a Bike Ride

It’s spring, so you know what that means. Time to see how much rust can build up on your bike over one winter. If you have some extra time, you might even be able to fix your bike yourself and save some money.

Once you got the bike ready to go, it’s time to take it for a spin. One great thing about biking is that you can bring family, friends, partners, and kids.

If you don’t own a bike, you can rent one from your local shop or someone else in your community. If you live in an urban area, there are often bike rental companies like BlueBike or CitiBike that you can use. And if you are struggling to find people to bike with, try to find a local meetup group near you.

No. 6: Have a Picnic

Having a picnic can be a great way to get the family, friends, kids, and others together. If each person brings something, this can be very cost-effective and fun. You can have a picnic after hiking, biking, canoeing, or during your road trip. The sky is the limit.

Don’t forget to bring some fun activities to do when you go to make it even more fun. Some fun ones that come to mind are spikeball, kubb, badminton, and volleyball.

No. 7: Go On a Hike

Hikes are a great way to explore nature and be active. Besides the cost of gas, these trips are usually very low cost. Before you know it you will fly past 10,000 steps. Try using AllTrails to find a local hiking spot near you.

No. 8: Garden Outside

Gardening is a great way to enjoy time outside. You also get the benefit of making your apartment or house look more visually appealing. And last but not least, you will get the chance to grow your own fruits and vegetables. This can save you a ton of money on produce.

Here are some Mobee App gardening tips to get you started.

No. 9: Take Out the Sports Equipment

Home storage always seems to get full of sports equipment that we rarely ever use. Since you already have access to this equipment, why not take it for a spin?

You can shoot hoops with friends and family at an outdoor basketball hoop. And anywhere you have space, you can always throw a frisbee or ball around. This makes for inexpensive and easy fun.

No. 10: Go On a Road Trip

Taking a nice day trip can serve as a much-needed change of scenery. Consider finding local national parks or image-worthy destinations near you. Besides paying for gas, the rest of this trip should be relatively inexpensive. And the memories will last forever.

All in all, springtime is a great time to get outdoors and enjoy nature. With our 10 recommendations, you will be able to enjoy spring without breaking the bank.
