Mobee Secret Shopper Insights: April 2021
Do you remember our Shop ‘Til You Drop Mission? It was running in April, and during that month we received 3,663 validated responses from Bees!
We wanted to share with you the data so that you could see the results of your hard work. Let’s get into it!
Shop ‘Til You Drop Mission Overview
This Mission was completed across many different retail channels.
The first set of results came from your dollar stores, which include Dollar General, Dollar Tree, and Family Dollar. Then you had your drug stores, such as CVS, Family Dollar, Rite Aid, and Walgreens.
Grocery stores were also included and, made up most of the responses. They included Food 4 Less, Fred Meyer, Fry’s Food and Drug Store, Jewel Osco, Kroger, Publix, Stop and Shop, Vons Food Market, and Whole Foods.
For home improvement, we had our leaders, Lowe’s and Home Depot. And finally, for mass retailers we had your favorites, Walmart and Target, battling it out.
Were You Greeted When You Entered The Store?
We kicked things off by asking if you were greeted when entered. Of the approved responses, 36 percent of you said yes and 64 percent said no.
The stores where you were greeted most often included the mass retail channel. This was led by Target with 41 percent saying yes, followed by Walmart with 34 percent.
The lowest chance of receiving a friendly welcome was in the home improvement channel, with 31 percent saying you were greeted in Home Depot, but only 27 percent in Lowe’s. We were shocked by this one, as often when we go into home improvement stores we need more help than at a Walmart or Target.
While going through the rest of your shopping trip, 9 percent of you said an associate asked if you were looking for anything specific, 3 percent said an associate offered to show you where a product was, while 2 percent spoke with you about a specific new product. And finally, 2 percent of you said that an associate told you about a promotion.
Would Store Associates Offer You Assistance?
The next order of business was to see if store associates offered you assistance while shopping.
The home improvement channels won with 22 percent of you saying you were offered help. This was split into 21 percent being offered help in Home Depot, and 25 percent in Lowe’s.
The runner-up was the mass retailers, with 14 percent of respondents being offered help across Walmart and Target Stores. The lowest was the dollar channel, where only 2 percent of you were helped. So, while home improvement didn’t greet you all at the door, they made sure to help you all throughout the aisles.
Photos Of Your Favorite Displays.
We then asked you what some of your favorite brands with displays were. Overall, the leader was Fitbit followed by Samsung, Apple, LG, Garmin, Nature’s Bounty, and Nature Made. Here are images of a few of the displays you found appealing.
Checkout Experience Photos
Next up was taking pictures of the checkout. We know this area is hard to grab pictures. But for the brands and retailers that we work with, this is an important location to understand what’s going on. Many of them make their money with impulse purchases at the checkout.
Here are a few notable self-checkout photos across the country.
CVS Pharmacy- Westerville, Ohio. Dollar Tree- Pittsburgh, Pennslyvania Fry’s Food- Peoria, Arizona. Target- Long Beach, California The Home Depot, Pinellas Park, Florida.
The Checkout Experience: Question and Answers

Of the responses, 15 percent purchased something during this mission. Furthermore, 37 percent said that the store associate asked if you found everything you were looking for, while. 18 percent said you were asked if you were a part of their rewards program. Then, 6 percent asked if you wanted to join their program and 4 percent said the associate informed you of a current promotion.
These stores did an excellent job of creating an experience worth returning to, as 89 percent said your checkout experience was excellent or good and 79 percent said you are very likely or likely to shop at this store again.
